Marilyn, hi
I have tried to reply several times! So I will either be repeating myself or saying for the first time how delighted we were to get your comment. Shiwa was a wonderful slice of sheer nostalgia and slightly faded grandeur with the most generous and accommodating hosts. I certainly do recommend it! The Harveys have their reservations about certain aspects of Christina Lamb’s story, as did my father from a different perspective. I suppose she would argue that her version made the better story and it certainly put Shiwa back on the map.
I should think in many ways Lusaka has possibly not changed much since you knew it, except maybe bigger and more crowded!

I have read “The Africa House” by Christina Lamb several times as I am fascinated by the story of Shiwa Ngandu and Stewart Gore-Brown, so I shall await your next updates with great interest. I visited Lusaka many times in the 70s when working for an airline and always enjoyed being there but never went beyond the city. I remember seeing jacaranda trees in bloom for the first time there – a lasting impression.
